The Lash & Brow Guide

For eight years, I've helped over a thousand clients lift and grow out their lashes and brows. This is the guide I give them, with the habits I have seen make the difference between lashes and brows that thin out and ones that grow in. For each, it is simple: what we don't do, and what we do.

longer lashes

We don't do

  • Waterproof mascara. It has to dehydrate the lash in order to stay on, and that leads to thin, brittle lashes. It is the number one cause of damage I see.
  • Lash curlers. The tugging pulls on the hair and the lash line, even when you don't see breakage.
  • Skincare on your lashes. Keep all skincare products off your lashes, unless it is a pure oil cleanser. Lashes are naturally hydrated, and many formulas dry them out.

We do

  • Take mascara off with an oil cleanser or micellar water. You hydrate the lash while you remove.
  • Coconut oil every night. The tiniest amount, tapped on with your fingertip, keeps lashes hydrated so they bend instead of break.
  • Castor oil for thickness. Tap it on with your fingers, never a brush. It is too thick to brush, and a brush can push it into your eyes.
  • Brush them with a clean mascara wand. A light exfoliation for the lash line.
  • A serum, if your body takes to it. Serums work differently on every body, so try one and watch how your lashes respond. I like a formula that blends the essentials with extras like peptides and conditioners, like our Lash Serum. If it irritates, stop. Wearing extensions? That is a great time to use one.

fuller brows

We don't do

  • Tweezing between appointments. Brows need time to fill in. Put the tweezers down and leave the shape to us while they grow.
  • Skincare on your brows. Keep all skincare products off your brow hair, unless it is a pure oil cleanser. Many formulas dry out the hair, just like they do on lashes.

We do

  • Oil every night. Castor or coconut oil, tapped on. Just had a brow tint? Wait until it fades, since oil speeds up fading.
  • Brush them every day. It exfoliates the skin underneath and gets circulation going, which supports fuller growth.
  • A brow serum, if your body takes to it. The same rules as lashes: look for peptides and conditioners, and stop if it irritates.

from the inside

We do

  • Sleep on your back. My number one growth tip. We do a lot of damage to our hair while we sleep. Side sleeper? Try not to press your face into the pillow. This is the pillow I recommend.
  • Collagen. Lashes and brows grow from the inside too, and collagen is great for hair growth. This is the collagen I recommend.
